South African Success for Trelawney 4 Jul 2006
Trelawney Stud graduate Wise Son (Aus) (Montjeu – Wise Lass by Straight Strike) staked his claim as one of South Africa’s leading three-year-olds claiming victory in the Group Two Gold Vase (3000m) at Greyville over the weekend.

Trained by South African maestro Mike De Kock, the three-year-old ran home strongly down the centre of the track in his first attempt over the 3000m distance hauling in rank outsider Medicine Man and race favourite Magical Ballad with less than a neck separating these first three past the post.

Already Group One placed in the South African Classic (1800m) earlier in the season, Wise Son now boasts a race record of three wins, a second and two thirds from only eleven starts with over R300,000 in the bank for his owners L Jaffee, B Kantor and Mrs Dayle Kantor.

Born and raised at Trelawney Stud, Wise Son was bred by Philip Newman of Otorohanga in the Waikato and was sold through the Trelawney draft at the 2004 Inglis Easter Yearling Sale where he was purchased by Dominion Bloodstock for A$160,000.
