A Nice Win for Miss Fantabulous 5 Sep 2007
While Miss Finland (Aus) (Redoute’s Choice) was possibly the star attraction at Caulfield on Saturday for many, it was her stablemate Miss Fantabulous (Aus) (Encosta De Lago) that held the interest of the Trelawney team this weekend.

Raced in partnership by Trelawney Stud and Bruce Honeybone, the four-year-old mare was lining up in her second start this preparation in the Redoute’s Choice Plate (1100m). Jumping from barrier 16 and with leading jockey Craig Williams aboard, the powerful mare settled toward the rear of the field over the 1100m and coming into the turn, was pulled out wide to make her run finishing a length clear of Maslins Beach (Aus) (Flying Spur) and Amarazetti (Aus) (Commands) at the line.

“It was certainly good to see some high class racing on Saturday particularly with the events of the last two weeks in Australia,” said Brent Taylor of Trelawney Stud. “It was also nice to see our colours crossing the line in front,” he added. “It’s a thrill to win any race and when you’re lining up in Melbourne in the Spring, you know you have to be at the top of your game to win,” said Brent. “It was also a nice result for our partner in the mare, Bruce Honeybone, as we’ve had a bit of bad luck already this season,” he said.

Bruce Honeybone is no stranger to the thoroughbred industry having bred and raced horses for a number of years. In fact, he’s already tasted Group One glory through the deeds of Rockabubble (Aus) (Bubble Gum Fellow), who in 2005 won the Group One New Zealand Thoroughbred Breeders’ Stakes (1600m). “We’ve been trying to get into the higher end of breeding and racing thoroughbreds,” said Bruce. “We race a number of horses and have some broodmares as well, some of which are in Australia at the moment,” he said. “So, it was certainly great to see Miss Fantabulous win like that on Saturday,” he said.

Already a stakes winner, as a member of the all conquering David Hayes stable, there is no doubt Miss Fantabulous will be stepping out a few more times throughout the Melbourne Spring Carnival. “I’m not too sure what she will be heading toward next,” said Brent, “but she won against Group and Listed company on Saturday so hopefully all going well she will be headed toward some of the nicer races in the weeks ahead,” he said.
