First Australian Stakes Winner for Van Nistelrooy 23 Oct 2007
The results keep rolling in for the progeny of Van Nistelrooy (USA) (Storm Cat) with this weekend providing the young sire with his first stakes winner in Australia.

Three-year-old colt Vandalo (NZ) (Van Nistelrooy) claimed the Listed Winning Edge Presentation Stakes (1400m) during an action packed programme of racing at Caulfield on the Melbourne Racing Club’s biggest day of racing, Caulfield Cup Day.

Saturday was the Vandalo’s sixth start and after a solid fifth in the Listed Concept Sports Stakes (1400m) behind Dandy Dollar (Aus) (Dash For Cash) and Husson Lightning (Aus) (Hussonet) and Pit Lane (NZ) (Van Nistelrooy), the win was just reward.

Bred by Jim Campin of Chequers Stud, one of the partners in the group responsible for bringing Van Nistelrooy to New Zealand, and sold for $110,000 at the 2006 NZB Ready-to-Run Sale, Vandalo is out of the great producer Riverly Lass (NZ) (Gleam Machine) making him a half brother to Singapore Horse of the Year Zirna (NZ) (Deputy Governor), stakes winner Amazing Me (NZ) (Deputy Governor) and the stakes performers State Command (NZ) (Deputy Governor) and Ruby Turner (NZ) (Deputy Governor).

Van Nistelrooy’s tally of Southern Hemisphere winners has risen to thirteen winners from 34 starters so far and includes the Champion Juvenile of Singapore in Onceuponatime (NZ), the stakes performers Pit Lane (NZ), Boundless (NZ) and Vanny Fair and now of course, Vandalo. In the Northern Hemisphere, his progeny have made a strong start to the two-year-old season with results in the USA seeing Van Nistelrooy making a bid for Freshman Sire honours whilst in Europe, he has a Group Two-winner and Group One performer in the form of Strike The Deal and a Group Three winner in Raymi Coya (Can).

“It is definitely nice to get a stakes winner on the board in Australia,” said Brent Taylor of Trelawney Stud. “With more and more of his progeny stepping out all the time, we can look forward to more results like this,” says Brent.
