The Trelawney stud broodmare band received another boost this past weekend with the win of Miss Fantabulous (Aus) (Encosta De Lago) in the Group Two MRC Tristarc Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield on Saturday.
A stakes winner and performer prior to Saturday’s race, the Group Two victory will undoubtedly enhance her value as a broodmare and ensure her a select spot in Trelawney’s elite broodmare band. “We purchased Miss Fantabulous privately and sourced her through Mark Pilkington,” said Brent Taylor of Trelawney Stud. “She had a pedigree that we liked and we thought that she definitely had the potential to add to her stakes tally,” he said. “To win a Group race in the Melbourne Spring is a fantastic result, some might say fantabulous!” says Brent.
A daughter of outstanding stallion Encosta De Lago (Aus) (Fairy King), Miss Fantabulous is a daughter of Miss Chanel (Aus) (Splendent) with her pedigree page featuring the likes of dual Group One-winner Super Elegant (Aus) (Mister C).
Miss Fantabulous has emulated the success of another Trelawney-owned mare, Pernod (NZ) (Centaine) who won the Tristarc Stakes en route to the Group Two VRC Hardy Classic (1600m). Trained by David Hayes, Miss Fantabulous will head toward the Group One Myer Classic (1600m) on Derby Day at Flemington in just over seven days time. “She came through the Tristarc very well,” reported Mark Pilkington. “We’re very pleased with how she is going and with a bit of luck, she will be right in the finish in the Myer,” he said.
As a four-year-old, Miss Fantabulous still has another season ahead of her on the racetrack before being retired to the Trelawney broodmare band. “All things going well, she will race in the Autumn and then as long as she is fine and comes up well again next season, we would be more than likely to race her on for a little longer,” says Brent.
