Racing at Ellerslie on Saturday produced a stellar result for Van Nistelrooy (USA) (Storm Cat) with his progeny taking out the first two events on the card.
The first race of the day saw three-year-old filly Boundless (NZ), who was stakes placed behind Lovetrista (Aus) (Rock Of Gibraltar) in her last start, run out an impressive winner over 1200m under a hands and heels ride by the in-form Danielle Johnson. Bred by Trelawney Stud, Boundless was purchased by Trevor McKee from Trelawney’s 2006 Premier draft for $80,000 and is trained by his son Stephen.
Less than forty minutes later it was the two-year-olds to the fore and this time Pretty Audrey (NZ) (Van Nistelrooy) was to the fore for the Richard Collett and Shane Hapeta Stable. Bred by Carol Marshall and Angela Paykel, Pretty Audrey was sold through the draft of Lyndhurst Farm for $90,000 to the bid of Stuart Hale at the 2007 NZB Premier Sale and looks to have a bright future ahead of her.
In the Northern Hemisphere, Van Nistelrooy notched up his second Graded Stakes winner in the USA through the deeds of another two-year-old filly, Elusive Lady (USA). The winner of two from three starts, Elusive Lady romped away with the Grade Three Tempted Stakes (1600m) at Aqueduct winning by four and a quarter lengths.
Van Nistelrooy has now sired seven stakes winners world-wide with a further four stakes performers. His stakes winners in the Northern Hemisphere include Grade One-winner Set Play (Can), Group Two Winner Strike The Deal (USA) and Group Three winner Raymi Coya (USA), whilst in the Southern Hemisphere Van Nistelrooy has produced Group Three winner Onceuponatime in Singapore and the Listed winner in Australia, Vandalo (NZ).
