The progeny of Van Nistelrooy (USA) (Storm Cat) were in high demand over the last two days at Karaka with the young stallion averaging a touch under $100,000 for his five lots sold through the ring placing him fifth on the leading sires table at the sale.
Leading the way was Lot 401, a chestnut gelding bred by Trelawney Stud and long-time client Joan Egan. A half brother to the stakes winner Astronomia (Aus) (King’s Best), he was sold through the draft of Mana Park and was purchased by Hong Kong bloodstock agent Willie Leung under his Magus Equine banner. “I think he is a very lovely horse and I’m very pleased to have bought him,” said Willie after signing for the gelding. “He will stay in New Zealand for a while before we take him to Hong Kong,” he said.
Real Special (NZ) (Van Nistelrooy), recent winner in Hong Kong
Brent Taylor of Trelawney Stud was particularly pleased with the result. “Van Nistelrooy just had a winner in Hong Kong this past weekend – Real Special - a colt we sold to Ginger Tankard as a yearling,” he said. “They have obviously taken note and Willie was prepared to step up and buy this horse,” said Brent. “It is also great to see Willie buy another horses carrying the Trelawney brand as he purchased a Fusaichi Pegasus colt out of our Easter Yearling Draft in April,” he said.
Another son of Van Nistelrooy to make over the $100,000 mark was Lot 106, a chestnut gelding out of Filiouchka (NZ) (Soviet Star). Sold by Haunui Farm, he was purchased by New Zealand Bloodstock as agent for Singapore clients and they will no doubt be hoping he can follow in the footsteps of Onceuponatime (NZ) (Van Nistelrooy) who was crowned Champion Juvenile of Singapore last season.
Weatherly Bloodstock sold the highest priced Van Nistelrooy filly at the sale with Lot 78, a filly out of Deune (Aus) (Green Line Express) fetching $75,000.
“The winners just keep coming for Van Nistelrooy,” said Brent Taylor of Trelawney Stud. “The last three weeks has seen his number of individual winners from his first crop more than double and I think they are just starting to hit their straps down here,” he said. “Hopefully the next few months will see a few more stakes performers come his way which would be a fantastic result for all of those people with Van Nistelrooy yearlings and foals,” said Brent.
