Karaka 2008 has come to an end and once again, Trelawney Stud yearlings were well sought after by buyers from around the globe.
A total of 35 yearlings were offered by Trelawney Stud in the Premier and Select Sessions of Karaka 2008. In Premier, the Trelawney draft averaged $192,500 achieving a top price of $700,000 paid by Adrian Nicol on behalf of BBA Ireland for the Fastnet Rock (Aus) (Danehill) filly out of Galapagos Girl (Aus) (Dehere). “It was certainly a great result for Trelawney and our clients and very pleasing to sell one of the top fillies of the sale,” said Brent Taylor of Trelawney Stud. “We try to lift the bar each and every year with the quality of our yearling draft both on paper and presentation,” he said.
In the Select Sale, Trelawney sold 13 yearlings at an average price of just over $83,000 with two colts eclipsing the $200,000 mark and an Elusive City (USA) (Elusive Quality) filly selling for $130,000. “To sell three six figure yearlings in this session was fantastic,” said Brent. “Particularly pleasing was the French Flute filly by Elusive City – it’s great that he was able to sell six figure yearlings in both sessions once again,” he said.
Karaka 2008 broke all records with a total sale gross of over $111,000,000. “While EI had some impact on the sale with Karaka being the first major yearling sale of 2008, I must say what a fantastic job New Zealand Bloodstock did in promoting the sale and getting the buyers to New Zealand,” says Brent. “The success of this sale bodes well for the New Zealand industry, he said. “New Zealand bred horses achieved some great results over the Melbourne Spring Carnival picking up a majority of the major races which was a much needed boost to New Zealand’s profile in Australia,” said Brent. “The New Zealand racing industry has also taken some significant steps forward in recent years with greater returns to owners and that is starting to filter through to the yearling sale ring,” says Brent.
Trelawney Stud wish to thank all buyers who were successful in purchasing a Trelawney yearling at Karaka 2008 but would also like to thank all those who inspected yearlings prior to, and during the sale as well as those buyers who were unsuccessful in securing a Trelawney yearling. “While we owe a lot to those who purchase our yearlings, we also are indebted to all those buyers who bid on our yearlings as without them, we wouldn’t be able to achieve the desired results,” said Brent. “We have a proud history of producing sound, strong racehorses that can compete at the highest level on any racetrack in the world and I wish everyone the best of luck with the yearlings purchased from our draft this year,” he said.
